Any young musican who has been playing for at
least 6 months is welcome to apply to Yorchestra. There is no formal audition
process, and we use the following guidelines to place players in orchestras.
Yorchestra 4 - Grade 1* and all first time applicants with at least 6 months experience of playing (the players' age range is usually between 8 - 11 years) Yorchestra 3 - for players Grade 2 to 4* (the players' age range is usually between 9 - 13 years) Yorchestra 2 - for players Grade 4 - 6* (the players' age range is usually between 11 - 16 years) Yorchestra 1 - for players who have passed at least Grade 7* (the majority of players are between 15 and 19 years of age) * Associated Board or equivalent exams. Not everyone takes music examinations, and if you are unsure which course to apply for, please contact us. A course tutor is always available on the first morning to make any final decisions.
