What is Yorchestra?

Yorchestra is a holiday orchestra for young musicians. It meets during the holiday periods of Easter, Summer and Christmas for three or four days of orchestral playing, chamber music, sectionals and workshops; with a concert on the final day of each course.. The courses are non-residential, and are usually held at the Music Department of the University of York and Heslington Church.

Yorchestra has been running regular courses for over 12 years, with players coming from over 60 schools in the York and surrounding areas.

At Yorchestra, you work with professional musicans, developing your orchestral and musical skills. You may also play in a string orchestra or windband and you might be involved in some chamber music or jazz. Often there are additional workshops including singing at lunchtime.
