Top quality music courses require top quality venues
At Yorchestra, we are fortunate to have access to two excellent venues, providing all the facilities needed to ensure that participants get the most out of their time on the course. The two locations are in close proximity to each other, making the practicalities as easy as possible for parents / carers with more than one child taking part.
York University Music Department
The courses for Y1 and Y2 usually take place in the Music Department at the University of York, which is specially designed for rehearsing a full symphony orchestra with all its sections. (Please note that music students from the University may occasionally use some of the other rooms in the Department for practice during Yorchestra courses.)
For end-of-course concerts, the orchestras use the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, a superb concert venue which is used to host concerts both by the University’s own ensembles and by professional performers.
How to find it:
Parking is available in the University car parks: more information is available from the University website.
The courses for Y3, Y4 and Yorchestra Young Strings usually take place in the lovely setting of Heslington Church. As well as the main Church building (used for full orchestral rehearsals and for the end-of-course concerts for Y3 and Y4), the Church has a number of adjoining meeting rooms which are perfect for sectional rehearsals. The Church also stands in beautiful grounds, which offer plenty of space for outdoor play at break and lunchtimes (subject to the weather!)
How to find it:
Parking is available on the church field (entrance on Field Lane).
Getting to Yorchestra
We know that the logistics of getting children and instruments to and from courses at the start and end of the day can sometimes be challenging. If you would like to share lifts, we may be able to put you in touch with other families travelling from your local area. Please contact us to enquire.
